~ B.A. in Elementary Education, St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN
~ M.ED in Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, Seattle University
~ Principal Certification, Seattle University
~ 19 years of teaching experience in Catholic education covering grades K, 2, 4 – 8; vice principal for 5 years
I am in my second year as Principal of St. Paul School. I came to St. Paul from Our Lady of Guadalupe School in West Seattle where I taught grades 5-8 over the course of 16 years. Prior to my time in Seattle I taught grades 4 and 5 at St. Joseph Grade School in South Bend, Indiana for 3 years. I went to St. Mary’s College in South Bend for my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. After teaching there for three I moved to Seattle to attend graduate school at Seattle University and fell in love with Seattle, so never left.
While in Seattle I’ve been a part of a book group that has read many excellent books. My two recent favorites are The Help by Kathryn Stockett and Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. One thing I love to do in the summer is travel! This summer I was fortunate to travel around Washington state as well as the Dominican Republic. I’ve been to many interesting places including Turkey, Australia and many parts of Europe. As a teacher, I always try to bring back new things learned from my travels to share with the students.
(at St. Paul since 1990)
~ Professional Development workshops ~ Public and private school work experience
"Proud mother of 2 and grandmother of 8! My daughter is a teacher in the Kent School District, and my son is the Senior Associate Pastor at River of Life Church in Kent. I have 8 grandchildren ranging in ages from 5 months to 11 years who are the 'loves of mylife'."
(at St. Paul since 2005)
~ B.A. (Psychology); Masters in Teaching - Seattle University ~ Full time teacher with Archdiocese of Seattle for 10.5 years (Grade 3, K, PK)
In 1995 I graduated from Seattle University with a BA in Psychology that I had begun many years earlier after high school. In the intervening years I had married, become a mother to seven children and did not go back to school until my youngest child was nearing Kindergarten. Following the BA I went on to earn a Masters In Teaching degree at S. U. in 1998. Since that time I have taught twelve years in Catholic schools, the past six years at St. Paul as Pre-K teacher.
I especially like teaching the youngest St. Paul students because they are so open to learning new things and eager to please. During my free time I enjoy reading detective stories and an all time favorite of mine is the large collection featuring Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I am very proud of my rather interesting cultural heritage – Irish, French, German, and Native American.
(at St. Paul since 1998)
~ B.S.E. Ed., M.A., University of the East, Philippines; M.A., Teaching, Seattle Pacific University
I hold a teaching certificate in Bahcleors of Science in Elementary Education with a specialization in guidance and counseling formt he University of East, in the Philippines. I continued my education by taking up some credits in school administration and supervision, as I was encouraged to further my studies since my teaching assignment kept pushing me up and higher to do supervision.
When the opportunity came for me to come to the United States to do graduate school work in teaching Reading at Seattle Pacific University, I followed my heart's desire, for it was a good reason for me to be back in teh classroom instead. In 2002, I felt Lesley University's offering in Master in Education with Integrating Creative Arts into the Curriculum was a realistic direction, since it puts emphasis on the brain and Multiple Intelligences Theory; this avenue reflected more of what I believe the importance on education of children should be.
This will be my 14th year at St. Paul. I had worked with first graders for two years before I spear-headed the Pre-K program for five years. I felt honored I did it since the accreditation committee of five years ago described it as one that is phenomenal. Then I moved on to kindergarten where I have been since 2005. Prior to St. Paul , I was with Maryknoll College Philippines for twenty years in various capacities: support staff, teaching and administrative positions. This college was established by the Maryknoll Missionary Sisters of N.Y., New York, U.S.A.
My favorite book is the Holy Bible. It keeps me hooked up with God. Through it I gained the right spirit to teach.
Teaching has been my imaginative play ever since I was only 6 years old. I thank God for allowing me to do this awesome responsibility.
I enjoy the beauty of the serene sceneries, then the arts. I also participate in line dancing. Most of all, I treasure the moments that I am with friends and family.

~ B.A. (Education) - Seattle University; 5th year - U.W.; Specific Language Disability Training - Seattle Pacific University ~ Taught in St. Louis, MO, Madision, IL, Renton, WA, and Shoreline School District as well as Hawaii
Hi! I'm Sue Hyder. This is my 20th year here at St. Paul and I love being here. The kids and the families are great. Before I came to St. Paul, I lived in Edmonds and substitute taught in the Shoreline School District. I did a lot of long term substituting and piloted a project called Project Success.
I began teaching in 1962, when I was a Sister of Divine Providence. I taught in St. Louis, MO and Madison, Ill. When I came home I finished my B of Ed. degree at Seattle University and my 5th year at the U of W. Later, while teaching at Renton Park Elem. in Renton, I took the Slingerland classes for teaching those with Dyslexia, from SPU.
In grade school at Holy Names Academy, I learned how to play the piano and the violin. That is why I am able to work with some of our students to pass this love of music on to the next generation. When I lived in Edmonds I was able to play with Cascade Symphony. That was a lot of fun.
My other great loves are horses and gardening. I've had horses win at Longacres, and I just redid a whole hillside this summer, now that I have a new knee. I've read all the Harry Potter books and hope to someday read the books in the library in our townhouse. My granddaughter, Jessica, is here at St. Paul and I love watching her do her Level 5 gymnastics at Auburn Gymnastic. She is now getting ready for the new competitive season. Thanks.
(at St. Paul since 2010)
˜ B.A. in Special and Elementary Education - Gonzaga University 2009
This is my second year at St. Paul as the second grade teacher. This year I have the added excitement of teaching math to kindergarten, first and second grade. I was lucky to start my teaching career at part of this community after getting my certifications in Special and Elementary Education from Gonzaga University in Spokane. Many of my favorite activities are things I can do outside; kayaking, hiking, and camping to name a few. One of my favorite kids books is Old Turtle by Douglas Wood and one of my favorite adult books is God Laughs and Plays by David James Duncan.
I love having the opportunity to help student work through situations that they don’t think they can overcome; and the joy and confidence that fills them up when they have mastered the skill. I feel that it is important for all students to know how they learn best, and to be able to verbalize what they need to be successful.
(at St. Paul since 2008)
~ B.A. (Geography Information Systems) - University of Washington 2004 ~ Masters in Teaching - City University 2006 ~ Web Design & Programming Instructor, University of Washington ~ 4th Grade teacher, Federal Way Public Schools
"I like to bike long distances, sometimes 150 miles at a time. I just started racing cyclocross this year and even though I'm not that great at it, I would love to train more and see how good I can get. When I have time, I like drawing portraits of people thinking. When I really have time, I will always enjoy reading a book, even though I'm pretty slow at it."
~ B.A. (Elementary Education) - Central Washington University; 5th year - Seattle Pacific University ~ Taught 4th grade at Our Lady of Lourdes in Vancouver, WA and 3rd grade at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Seattle
I am married with two children and am a member of St. Philomena Parish in Des Moines. I have enjoyed volunteering in parish life and have been active in planning parish retreats, leading bible studies and being a member of Liturgy Commission and Faith Formation. I also have had the great joy of helping to setup and maintain a parish library.
I believe that each and every child has special and unique gifts, talents and abilities. I hope to help them recognize and share these qualities for their benefit and for the benefit of others.
(at St. Paul since 2011)
B.A. (Sociology) - University of WashingtonMasters in Teaching - Pacific Lutheran UniversityPreviously taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade at Puyallup School District
I am in my first year of teaching here at St. Paul. I hold a BA in Sociology from the University of Washington and a Masters degree in Teaching with emphasis on elementary education and reading from Pacific Lutheran University. Prior to my time here I have taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade at the Puyallup School District and math/reading at Sylvan Learning Center. In my spare time I love to travel, read, play board games and spend time with my husband and 2 Maltese pups.
~ B.A. (Parks & Recreation); Teaching Certificate/Minor in Physical Education 1985 ~ I have taught in Catholic Schools for 8 years.
I attended Western Washington University received a BA in Parks and Recreation with a minor in Physical Education. I went back to Western Washington University and received a Teacher Certificate in K- 8 education. I am currently attended Seattle University in the Administration in Education Masters’ program. I will graduate this spring of 2012.
I have worked at St. Paul for six years. I began as the Physical Education teacher/CYO Athletic Director and then moved to being the 5th grade teacher and this year I am co-teaching with Mrs. Foy the 6th grade teacher. I have been in the teaching field for ten years total. I worked at St. Philomena Catholic School in Des Moines as a 4th grade teacher and Physical Education teacher before I came to St. Paul.
I enjoy the field of teaching for many reasons. First, I enjoy watching students learn and get excited about the new things they have learned. Second, I enjoy that every day is a different day and there is not one dull moment.
My favorite book is All Things Great and Small, by James Herriot. I enjoy this book because it is about animals and a Veterinarian who takes care of farm animals. When I was younger I volunteered in a Veterinary office and always wanted to be a Veterinarian.
~ B.A. (Arts & Letters, History), M.Ed. - University of Notre Dame ~ Teaching experience through Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) in Alabama and Texas
In 2006 I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelors in history and a concentration in education. I decided to pursue my M.Ed through a program called Alliance for Catholic Education. With this program I had the unique experience of working in very poor Catholic schools in both Alabama and Texas. I moved to Seattle after earning my degree and was fortunate to begin working at St. Paul that same year. This is my fourth year at St. Paul and I have enjoyed working here very much. One of my favorite things that I love about working here are the people. The students are very eager to learn, the parents are helpful in the classroom, and my co-workers are fabulous.
(at St. Paul since January 1981) 1968: AA [Associate in Arts] Lourdes Junior College, Sylvania, Ohio -Majors: Humanities with emphasis on Music and Drama 1972: BS. in Ed [Bachelor of Science] University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio -Majors: Early Childhood/ Elementary Education, -Special focus: Music, Environmental Ed. 1986: M.Ed [Masters in Education] Seattle University, Seattle, Washington Majors: Supervision of teachers and Multi-cultural Education Curriculum & Instruction
My educational background is very broad. I have three degrees: an Associate in Arts degree from Lourdes College, Sylvania, Ohio; a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Dayton, Ohio; and a Masters in Education, with a special focus on Supervision and Multi-Cultural Curriculum and Development from Seattle University.
While I have taught for almost forty years at all ages and grade levels, I have been at St. Paul the longest. I have been here since January of 1981. I was hired to replace the junior high math and science specialist. I have enjoyed St. Paul and am still here.
I was a Peace Corps volunteer in the south pacific for three years. While there, I worked for the Educational department and developed a math curriculum. I also directed the writing and the publication of math books and materials for both the teachers and students. I also conducted teacher workshops and in-services in the teaching of mathematics.
I do not have a favorite book. I love to read, and enjoy a wide variety of books. I do enjoy science fiction and mysteries. I consider myself to be an original Star Trek 'trekkie.' Although I liked all the Star Trek shows and Harry Potter. I love science. It is more a hobby than a job for me.
What I love most about teaching is interacting with the students. I enjoy the wonderful and funny things that kids do. I marvel and celebrate the uniqueness and talent of each student.
Something interesting about myself is that I have written plays and poems. I had a poem published in a magazine, which is now in the JFK memorial library in Massachusetts. I was honored when my poem was chosen for that publication.
I was also honored by the National Catholic Education Association as teacher of the year for the Pacific Northwest in 2005, and was also honored by the Peace Corps with a 'Working for Peace' award in 1989.
(at St. Paul since 2001)
~ B.A. (Philosophy) - Wesleyan University
Gregory E. Cox is a native of Seattle, WA. Mr. Cox attended the Latona School from kindergarten to third grade, when he moved to T.T. Minor. Upon promotion from the fifth grade, Mr. Cox went to Washington Middle School for one year, after which he attended the Lakeside School for the remainder of his secondary education (this might go some way in explaining why he speaks so strangely). Mr. Cox graduated from Wesleyan University, where he studies philosophy.
Mr. Cox has been a professional educator for 15 years, the last ten of which have been at St. Paul. His favorite book is Soren Kierkegaard’s The Sickness Unto Death: A Christian Psychological Exposition for Upbuilding and Awakening. His favorite thing about teaching is watching the children grow and mature, and hoping he has had some positive influence on the process. One interesting thing about Mr. Cox is that when he was growing up everyone always told him he should become a lawyer except his sister, the person who knew him best. She said he should become a teacher.
(at St. Paul since Fall 2010)
~ Gonzaga 2010 (History and Secondary Education Certification)
I was born in Seattle, Washington. I have one younger brother Jamie who is attending the University of Montana. I went to our Lady of the Lake elementary school and Bishop Blanchet High School. My positive experiences in the Catholic school system encouraged me to consider education as a vocation. I was fortunate to be able to pursue that passion at Gonzaga University where I studied history and secondary education. In college I was able to continue my running career which I started in the fifth grade running track for O.L.L. I still enjoy chasing my own running goals but my primary focus is now coaching. I am an assistant coach for both the men's cross-country and track programs at Bishop Blanchet.
It is exciting for me to be able to pass on my love of athletics and exercise to my students at St. Paul both in my role as P.E. Teacher and athletic director. Outside of athletics my interests include reading and collecting books I also enjoy watching movies and am slowly working my way through the AFI top 100 films. I am appreciative of the St. Paul community and feel fortunate to be a part of it.
My name is Aidee Orbegozo. I’m working on my thesis to complete my Masters in Spanish. I got my bachelors degree in Architecture in Mexico, where I worked building several projects, as well as in Honduras, & Central America . I married an international advisor from Peru and we moved to Mexico to start a family. My husband accepted a job as a manager in a Hispanic newspaper, and my family moved to Seattle. I worked in education in Seattle Public Schools as an Instructional Assistant for eight years until I got my teaching certificate in 2008. I worked for two years as a Special Education teacher, but now I do what I always wanted: to teach math and Spanish.
I am blessed to be teaching my first year in St. Paul. I am enjoying each minute getting acquainted with my wonderful students, and they are what I enjoy most about teaching.
I enjoy reading a lot, and for me it is not easy to choose a favorite book. I am a direct descendant of Garcilazo de la Vega, who was one of the classic writers of the Golden Century in Spain, and my parents are also avid readers, therefore, I have the love for reading in my blood. Now, I can mention Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, I just finished reading it, and I was touched by the wonderful analogy that relates to all of us in certain times of our lives.

~ St. Paul alumna; Holy Names Academy (graduated 2006) ~ Volunteer experience in the kindergarten classroom and at the after-school ESS program
"My best friends and I have known each other since kindergarten at St. Paul. A few of the faculty and staff who have taught me and my sister are now my colleagues! I love watching movies, baking, and spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy visiting the Philippines every few years to visit my grandparents - I've been there 5 times and can't wait to go again soon!"
I am a St. Paul alum c/o 2002 as well as a graduate from Holy Names Academy c/o 2006. Before I began working at St. Paul I volunteered at the school, usually in the Kindergarten classroom and afternoon E.S.S. I have worked at St. Paul since September 2007 - this year is my 5th year working here. It’s hard for me to name my number one favorite book I’ve ever read but the closest thing to it would probably be the entire Harry Potter series. I’ve grown up with both the books and the movie franchise so it will always have a special place in my heart. J One thing that I like most about working with the Pre-K is that without fail there is always something that makes me laugh and smile every day. Fun fact: my three closest friends also graduated from St. Paul School.

~ Seattle Central Community College (Parenting!)
"I currently reside in Maple Valley with my husband, 3 children and 2 cats. I enjoy going to the movies, shopping, hanging out with friends and spending time with family. I also like to do Zumba when I have time. My favorite food is sushi, favorite dessert is cheesecake, and favorite ice cream is Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia. I can watch The Joy Luck Club and The Proposal over and over again without getting tired. I will always own a cat or two, and will never get bored of vacationing in San Diego."

~ Highline Community College and Central Washington University
I've been in central Washington all of my life. I attended Renton Park Elementary, Nelson Middle School, Lindbergh High School and what is now Renton Technical College. Even though my parents are in heaven, my family is a good size and includes my sisters Julie and Kathy, brothers John, Jimmy, Michael and Pat, and neices and nephews Marissa, Shandi, Dawn, Kate and Morgan. Other than going to St. Paul on Wednesdays, I've been to St. Anthony, St. Stephen and now St. James parishes. My favorite places are San Juan Island, Yellowstone and Alki Beach. I would read Tough Boris by Mem Fox over and over again. Most of you know I love creating origami art, in addition to reading and crafts. I keep active by playing softball, baseball and taking long walks in the woods or along the water's edge. Two other interesting facts about me are that I helped construct the World's Largest Crane as well as own two cats named Seraphina and Dennis the Menace!
