Welcome to Fifth Grade!
The students were sent home with a grade report for each of the subjects they have with me. Look for these Thursday evening. Please look them over as the trimester ends November 27th, the Monday after Thanksgiving. Keep in mind you can get updates daily by signing up for daily emails from PowerSchool or logging in with your username and password.
The students will participate in a classroom management system called Classcraft. Each student created their own character and receives points for positive behaviors (listening in class, kindness, turning in homework, etc.) and loses points for negative behaviors (missing work, not following directions, talking out, etc.) The students really seem to be into it!
Parents are also able to create an account. You may give the students Gold Points (GP) if they finish their homework or do other things around the house. They can use their GP to add different items to their characters. Each student received a paper with the parent account code. If you have not received one yet, let me know, and I will print another one for you.
PowerSchool Login Information
Your child will receive a paper with your PowerSchool login information. It also includes instructions on how to get to the website. Please check PowerSchool as much as possible. It is an easy way to see how your child is doing. It is also a good idea to give your child the login information so they can check their progress on their own.
What's Going on in the Classroom?
ELA- This week, students read the story Mariah Keeps Cool. It was about two sisters and their friends planning a surprise party for their older sister. The students seemed to enjoy it! They also continued to work on editing grammar and reading comprehension. We will have a Thanksgiving debate next week about one of the NewsELA articles we read this week. Students have a small turkey assignment they received Monday that is due on Monday, November 20th.
Math- Students did a really good job with long division with single-digit divisors, but did struggle a bit with divisibility rules. Patience is key!
Social Studies- Everyone did a fantastic job on their Chapter 2 PowerPoint presentations! We started Chapter 3 this week, which is about European exploration of the Americas.
ELA- Turkey Assignment due Monday
Math- Divisibility Rules Worksheet due Monday (If not done in class)
5th Grade Social Studies-
6th Grade Social Studies- Began working on Chapter 6 Projects.
