Welcome to Fifth Grade!
No School Friday
School is not in session Friday, October 12, because of Teacher Excellence Day. Enjoy the three-day weekend!
The students will participate in a classroom management system called Classcraft. Each student created their own character and receives points for positive behaviors (listening in class, kindness, turning in homework, etc.) and loses points for negative behaviors (missing work, not following directions, talking out, etc.) The students really seem to be into it!
Parents are also able to create an account. You may give the students Gold Points (GP) if they finish their homework or do other things around the house. They can use their GP to add different items to their characters. Each student received a paper with the parent account code. If you have not received one yet, let me know, and I will print another one for you.
PowerSchool Login Information
Your child received a paper with your PowerSchool login information this afternoon. It includes instructions on how to get to the website. Please check PowerSchool as much as possible. It is an easy way to see how your child is doing. It is also a good idea to give your child the login information so they can check their progress on their own.
What's Going on in the Classroom?
ELA- This week the students read La Bamba. We continue to work on reading comprehension and vocabulary acquisition. We will work on writing next week.
Math- Students continued to work on long division and did a nice job. They also learned divisibility rules. We will continue working on division next week.
History- Students continued working on their Chapter 2 Projects. Most groups have just started their PowerPoints and will work on finishing those next week.
ELA- Pumpkin Character Book Report due October 22
Math- Page 32 (Divisibility Rules and Mental Math) due Monday
5th Grade History- Working on Chapter 2 Project
6th Grade History- Chapter 3, Section 2 Assessment due Monday
